Yoga and Intention: Aligning Your Potential
Tuesday, March 31, 4:00 – 6:00 pm
Highsmith Union 224
That which matters the least should
never give way to that which matters the most. A two
hour yoga workshop open to all levels (beginners
welcome)! Together we will explore the opening and guiding
power of hatha yoga. Learn how to listen to your inner
voice through meditation, breathing, and postures in this
creative vinyasa flow class. The definition of yoga is to
unite, or bring together your thoughts and actions to align
your life with how you envision it being. Bring your yoga
mat (we will have extras as well) and stretchy pants and get
ready to move into your potential.
Alex Moody
is a
career counselor and yoga instructor in the Asheville area.
After graduating with a degree in Creative Writing from
Appalachian, Alex volunteered with Americorps working with
after school programs in the Boston area. After obtaining
her Masters in Education from the University of Virginia,
Alex began working as a career counselor for experiential
learning. During graduate school Alex began practicing
Bikram yoga (the HOT kind!) regularly to help with chronic
migraine headaches. In the summer of 2007, Alex journeyed
to the desert of Las Vegas, Nevada to work for a yoga
clothing company called lululemon athletica. As a floor
leader, Alex developed leadership skills, wrote out her
goals, and practiced many different types of yoga. In all
of her goals, yoga teacher training in the mountains of
Asheville came up over and over again. Believing that if
you jump the net will appear, Alex relocated to Asheville to
pursue her goal of becoming a yoga instructor. She
currently works at UNC Asheville doing career counseling as
well as teaching college student success at AB Tech.

-
Focus: Pause and wait at the entrance. Become
quiet and center yourself. Silently state an intention,
ask a question, or ponder “What’s next for me”?
-
Experience: Follow the path and walk purposefully.
Focus on your intention or question. Observe the
process. When you reach the center, be still and
reflect. Listen to a response within yourself. Leave
when it seems appropriate. Be attentive as you walk back
on the same path.
-
Exit: Turn and face the entrance. Pause and
acknowledge the response you found within yourself. This
is your time to integrate the insight.
-
Reflect: After walking the labyrinth, reflect back
on your experience. Use journaling or drawing to capture
your experience and apply what’s next for you.
-
Walk often.
