Chancellor University of North Carolina Asheville The University of North Carolina at Asheville, the designated liberal arts institution of the 16-campus University of North Carolina system, invites applications and nominations for the position of Chancellor. Small by choice, the University enrolls 3,348 students and employs 183 full-time faculty members committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship. UNC Asheville is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top five public liberal arts universities. The University has received national recognition for its integrative approach to the liberal arts, specifically its Undergraduate Research and Humanities programs. A unique, cutting-edge new general education program, Integrated Liberal Studies, is in its first year of implementation. UNC Asheville competes at the NCAA Division I level and has fourteen sports. The University is significantly upgrading its facilities, enhancing the residential, curricular, and co-curricular experience of students through effective master planning and facility development. The ideal candidate will be a proven, outstanding leader with a commitment to continuing to build academic excellence and national visibility; an effective communicator dedicated to the values of a public liberal arts institution; a dynamic individual with the skills and drive to translate vision into action; an experienced fundraiser; and a strong, strategic manager of resources in support of the University’s mission. Also important is the capacity to work successfully with diverse constituencies on campus, in the community, and across the state. UNC Asheville’s location one mile north of vibrant downtown Asheville (population 75,000) is convenient to the city’s amenities, yet it is only minutes from spectacular mountain scenery and outdoor activities in the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.
