Continuing Education at UNCA offers a variety of test preparation classes – SAT, GRE, LSAT – as well as Effective Teacher Training, all designed to get you on your way with your future. Effective Teacher Training - 2010 (Registration Form) 
   This series of classes is highly recommended for those individuals interested in substitute teaching in the area school systems.  It is currently required prior to becoming employed in the Asheville City and Buncombe County school systems.  Please check with the school system in which you want to work to determine their requirements. The class is approved for three (3) Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

   During these sessions you will explore the legal and ethical considerations involving substitute teaching, policy and procedures (from Harry Wong's First Day of School,) age appropriate instruction strategies, behavioral management techniques, and much more.

   There are four sessions held throughout the year. Each will be held on four consecutive Saturdays from 9am -3pm on UNCA's campus. The cost for each session is $95.00. The required textbook is Substitute Teacher Handbook, K-12, Sixth Edition, available in the UNCA bookstore for $24.94 plus tax.

          Session I: January 23, 30 & February 6,13, 2010

         ** Session II: March 20, 27, & April 10, 17, 2010

          Session III: July 24, 31, & August 7, 14, 2010

          Session IV: October 23, 30 & Nov 6, 13, 2010
