Housing Operations
Our Mission:
The Office of Housing Operations strives to provide
every residential student with a safe, clean, and
comfortable living and learning environment. We
maximize the enjoyment of living and the excitement of
learning here at UNC Asheville through our staff, our
facilities, our amenities, and our service. Our desire
is that each student as an individual and all students
as a community will truly be able to call their
residence halls at UNC Asheville a home away from home.

Room Cancellation Requests
(back to top of page)
TERMS OF THE HOUSING
CONTRACT AND CANCELLATION REQUESTS:
A Memo
regarding room cancellation will be sent to students on
Monday, November 3, 2008.
To help with
your planning, we are reminding current resident
students and their parents of the terms of the year-long
housing contract.
Please be
aware the UNC Asheville housing contract states: “The
term of this contract is for one academic year
consisting of two semesters, from the first day of fall
semester to the last day of spring semester, or for an
alternate period beginning sometime after fall semester
begins and terminating at the end of spring semester.”
Some off-campus housing businesses may aggressively
solicit students to break their year-long housing
contracts and move into off-campus housing.
The UNC
Asheville housing contract has no provision for resident
students moving off campus mid-year, with the exception
of a few valid reasons, and documentation must be
provided. These reasons include:
-
The
student is required to move from the
Asheville/Buncombe County area while student
teaching or involved in other field work (includes
internship and Study Abroad program).
-
The
student graduates, withdraws or transfers from UNC
Asheville.
-
There
are medical reasons approved by the Director of
Student Health Services.
-
The
student is academically ineligible to return to UNC
Asheville
-
The
student is getting married prior to or during spring
semester.
If you will not be
returning to the residence halls next semester based on
one of the above reasons, please print
this form
and return the
form, with any necessary supporting documentation to the
Office of Residential Education and Housing Operations
in Governors Hall by 4:00 PM on Monday, December 1, 2008. By doing so, you will officially
cancel your room assignment for spring semester.
-
If you are approved to
cancel for a valid reason but do not return this
form by December 1, 2008 you will automatically
forfeit your housing deposit.
-
If
you are not approved to cancel for a valid
reason and move out of your residence hall room, you
may be billed for your room and meal plan for
spring semester 2009.
-
If you have questions
about room cancellation, please call (828) 251-6700 or
e-mail reslife@unca.edu.
