Housing Application process for prospective students:  back to top

When accepted to UNC Asheville by the Admissions Office, students receive an admissions packet that includes a

Tuition Deposit Form. All students must complete this form and return it to Admissions.

All first year students are required to live on campus.  As soon as possible please complete the Housing Application and with a $150 security deposit which will be applied to the student account at move it.  Please complete the Housing Application for return it to the Housing Operations at One University Heights, CPO 9000, UNCA, Asheville, North Carolina 28804

The date a completed housing application is received in the Housing Operations office is one of the factors used to determine housing assignments. In other words, students who submit housing applications earlier in the process have a better chance of receiving their preferred assignments.

Housing applications for fall enrollment may be submitted during the preceding fall, winter, spring or summer. Students who submit applications by May 1 are usually assured campus housing for fall semester. May 1 is also the date by which students who wish to room together may request this assignment in writing or in the space indicated on the application and be assured that every effort will be made to honor their request. Housing applications are accepted year-round, although students who apply after June 1 may experience a longer wait for their fall housing assignments. Housing assignments and roommates’ names and addresses are mailed to students enrolling for fall semester by mid-July. Students enrolling for spring semester will receive their assignments by early January.

The $150 housing deposit is refundable if a student submits a written cancellation of his/her housing application to the Housing Office by May 1 for fall enrollment or December 1 for spring enrollment. At any time, failure to properly notify the Housing Office of a cancellation will result in forfeiture of the deposit.

The New Student Guide to the Housing Process:  back to top

Welcome to University of North Carolina at Asheville!  Our Housing Preference form is available online and should be submitted electronically by June 1.  On this date, all submitted Housing Preference forms will be assigned a number based on the date of the Housing Application.  This means that the earlier you apply for housing, the higher you will be in the room assignments process.  Unlike many schools, our room assignment process is done carefully by hand.  While we do our best to find you the best roommate possible, please realize that we are not always able to meet everyone's specific choices.  Housing Preference forms submitted after the June 1st deadline will be considered at a later date when there may be fewer options available.

All freshmen students are required to live on campus.  We hope the years you will spend living on campus will have a long-lasting impact.  We encourage students to see this as a time to for appreciating cultural and personal differences and exploring relationships that you will remember for a lifetime.

Our Residential Education and Housing Operations staff is here to help turn your preferences into the ideal residential experience for you.  Our hope is that this guide will help assure your experience is a positive one.

Four Easy steps to the housing assignment process:

  1. Read through this guide.

  2. Before you answer the questions on the Housing Preference form, read them ALL first.  This is a helpful way to make sure you are answering the questions thoroughly.  Answer each question with as much detail as possible.  Not answering questions may restrict your other preferences.

  3. Inform us of any changes in your references after you submit the form.  You can do so by sending us an email to reslife@unca.eduRemember to let us know as soon as possible.  The later we know, the fewer options will be available.

  4. Submit the Housing Preference Form by June 1st.  Room assignments will be emailed to your UNC Asheville account in mid-July for the Fall term and by early January for the Spring term.

If you have not received your housing assignment by one week prior to your anticipated arrival date, please call the Residential Education and Housing Operations office at 828-251-6700
