The Department of Health and Wellness at the University of North Carolina Asheville (UNC Asheville) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position.

 

Position: Assistant Professor in Health and Wellness Promotion teaching in the Department of Health and Wellness.  This is a full-time, 9 month, tenure-track faculty appointment beginning in August, 2010.

 

Qualifications: Doctoral degree within the area of health and wellness, health education or closely related discipline is required; demonstrated excellence in and commitment to teaching and advising at the undergraduate level and a strong focus on liberal arts learning; active participation in the discipline as evidenced by involvement in professional organizations, presentations, and publications; and demonstrated commitment to university, department and community service.

 

Experience and expertise in two or more of the following areas is required: community health, health promotion and program planning; reducing/eliminating health disparities, health and sexuality, drugs and addictive behavior, stress management, women’s health, integrative health and medicine, child health and personal health and fitness.

 

Responsibilities:  Teach undergraduate courses in the Department of Health and Wellness, serve as a student advisor and mentor, establish a research agenda and scholarly endeavors in the discipline, engage in service activities on departmental, university and community levels, and performance of other duties as assigned by the department chair.  An important responsibility of this position would be to coordinate the delivery of 30+ sections of the university’s health and wellness requirement.
