Redesigning unca.edu:
An Overview

The UNC Asheville Web site is about to undergo a complete redesign for the first time in more than seven years.

As a prelude to the comprehensive redesign, our current homepage and some of the sub-tier pages will have a new appearance and several technical enhancements beginning April 13. You can read more about this “interim” design by clicking on the “Interim design” link at right. This new homepage appearance will serve as a first step in beginning the overall site redesign that will be undertaken during the next nine months.

Complete site restructure

Chancellor Anne Ponder has named a large, university-wide team to offer advice on the project, which will be managed by staff in Communications and Information Technology Services. The advisory team is made up of 34 faculty, students, staff and alumni.

The project will include developing and launching an improved Web presence for UNC Asheville, including the home page and a number of secondary pages linked to the home page. The new Web site will have improved navigation and usability, will take advantage of new technology, and will convey a new and vibrant look and feel that consistently reflects the university’s character and sets it apart from other universities.

Because the Web site represents UNC Asheville’s single largest opportunity to communicate with various internal and external audiences, the new site will be dynamic and offer new and engaging content that shows all our audiences the great stories that are happening at our university.

The Advisory Team, along with staff from Communications and ITS, have begun work on the site with a goal of launching a new home page and core secondary pages linked to the home page by January 2010.

More information on this project will be available on this Web page throughout the project, including a blog that will encourage feedback and ongoing discussion of the redesign process from all visitors to the unca.edu web site.
