Currently available options include... Workshops: These offerings are available to all faculty and staff. Please see the listing below for complete details and to register: All Walks of Life Walking Club: Join your fellow employees for weekly walking adventures around the beautiful UNC Asheville campus. Departing at 12:15 pm each Tuesday (weather permitting) from the bulldog statue known as “Rocky,” the group will explore parts of campus you may not have known existed. Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear appropriate for variable terrain. Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project: ASAP helps create and expand local food markets that will preserve our agricultural heritage, give everyone access to fresh, healthy food, and keep our farmers farming. Their mission is to collaboratively create and expand regional community based and integrated food systems that are locally owned and controlled, environmentally sound, economically viable, and health-promoting. For additional information, please click here. North Asheville Tailgate Market. The area's oldest farmers' market, conveniently located on UNC Asheville's campus, is in it's 29th year of operation with over 40 vendors selling locally produced goods. The market is open every Saturday during growing season. For additional information, please click here. Nutritional counseling: Chartwell's dietician, Janet Zusi, is available for for individual nutritional counseling and assessment. Janet is available Mondays and Thursdays, 9 AM-3 PM, and can be reached at 828-251-6183 or by email. Walking trails: UNC Asheville offers walking trails within and adjacent to campus--the University Heights loop, the Glen Creek greenway on W.T. Weaver Boulevard, the Reed Creek greenway on Broadway, and the trail through the Botanical Gardens. Biofeedback training: The Department of Health and Wellness in partnership with Campus Recreation offers a variety of facilitated and self-directed programs in the new optimal performance lab (HFC 210). All programs use biofeedback to enhance awareness of users physiological responses to stress and to teach ways to reduce tension. Exercise opportunities: The Health and Fitness Center offers many opportunities to get in shape including recreational and lap swim, working out in the weight room, and walking/jogging on the indoor track. Group fitness classes: Campus Recreation offers free fitness classes (with a valid UNCA ID card) in yoga, pilates, aerobics, and more. Classes are held in HFC Dance Studio, Pool, or Highsmith Union. Center for Teaching and Learning: The Center for Teaching and Learning hosts learning circles every semester, and usually over the summer as well. Focused on personal and professional growth, these discussion groups are open to faculty and staff, and cover topics as varied as Robert Moses' Algebra Project and Martin Seligman's Authentic Happiness.
